Twenty-third Sunday after Pentecost
November 9, 2025
Welcome & Announcements
* Call to Worship......................................... Psalm 132:13-16
Leader: For the LORD has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his dwelling place:“This is my resting place forever; here I will dwell, for I have desired it. I will abundantly bless her provisions; I will satisfy her poor with bread. Her priests I will clothe with salvation, and her saints will shout for joy.”
* Hymn of Praise #167..... “When Morning Gilds the Skies”
* Prayer of Adoration
* Affirmation of Our Faith……..…The Canons of Dort, Points 3 & 4, Refutation 6
Leader: Having set forth the orthodox teaching, the Synod rejects the errors of
those who teach that in the true conversion of men and women new qualities, dispositions, or gifts cannot be infused or poured into their will by God, and indeed that the faith [or believing] by which we first come to conversion and from which we receive the name “believers” is not a quality or gift infused by God, but only a human act, and that it cannot be called a gift except in respect to the power of attaining faith. [Christian, why is this an error?]
All: For these views contradict the Holy Scriptures, which testify that God does infuse or pour into our hearts the new qualities of faith, obedience, and the experiencing of his love: “I will put my law in their minds, and write it on their hearts”;1 “I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring”;2 “The love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us”.3 They also conflict with the continuous practice of the Church, which prays with the prophet: “Convert me, Lord, and I shall be converted”.4
Hymn of Trust #599....... “Savior, like a Shepherd Lead Us”
Call to Confession............................................ Proverbs 1:23
Leader: If you turn at my reproof, behold, I will pour out my spirit to you; I will make my words known to you.
Corporate Prayer of Confession ...................... Psalm 39:7-11
All: And now, O Lord, for what do I wait? My hope is in you. Deliver me from all my transgressions. Do not make me the scorn of the fool! I am mute; I do not open my mouth, for it is you who have done it. Remove your stroke from me; I am spent by the hostility of your hand. When you discipline a man with rebukes for sin, you consume like a moth what is dear to him; surely all mankind is a mere breath!
Silent Prayers of Confession
* Assurance of God’s Grace................................. Micah 7:19
Leader: He will again have compassion on us; he will tread our iniquities underfoot. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.
* Congregational Response #334. “Breathe on Me, Breath of God”
Sharing of Praises and Petitions
Prayer for the Church and the World
* Scripture Reading ....................................... 1 Peter 1:10-12

* Hymn of Praise #392.......... “O Day of Rest and Gladness”
* Benediction
Following the benediction, let us greet and welcome one another as Christ has welcomed us, for the glory of God (Romans 15:7), remembering what our Lord teaches us in the Scriptures: “Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God” (1 Peter 1:22–23)
